Emptied products in August

So much had happened during late August and early September. I took a whole week off and caught up with some sun, rest, and gym, was hoping to catch up with books but to no avail. Then I changed to a new laptop and there's all the nuisance about connecting to the Internet. Call me old-fashioned but Windows 8 is quite difficult to work with, and there's no simple photo editing tool...oh well lol.

Let's get to today's topic: empties in August.
Kiehl's Calendula Alcohol-free toner - Reviewed here before, love this stuff. Note to self: this has quite a number of Glycols in it, is it still desirable to use?

AHAVA Firming Body Cream* - I love the Caressing Body Sorbet better, the latter is light weight and absorbs like a dream. Firming Body Cream kind of sits on my skin so the next day when I step into shower I could still feel it 'slippery' on surface.

Jill Stuart Moist Silk Liquid Foundation in #103 - I have like 10 bottles of these lying around, no kidding. It suddenly occurred to me that the Armani Designer Lift Foundie I was using was kind of too thick for summer (and for pores), so I opened up this sample and been mixing it with my rose hydrating mist from Aromatherapy Associates, application became so much easier. The coverage of this is medium and consistency a bit viscuous, I found it worked better when spritzing the blob of foundation with some mists or something.

Kiehl's Cucumber Alcohol-free Toner - Reviewed HERE previously. I still can't quite get used to the green potion...

Juicy Couture Couture La La EDP* - One word: bland. One more word: PASS.

Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist 24 Balancing Softener - Actually a toner, I couldn't tell what it did to my skin.

Giorgio Armani High Precision Retouch Concealer - This was a member gift kind of thing, I like its application wand (more like a brush tip), this worked well when applying to the odd spots, I also used this under-eye and it's pretty decent. Don't think I"ll repurchase though.

Canmake Cover & Stretch UV Concealer in #02 - This is my 2nd tube? I'm on my 3rd and bought the 4th... ; ) love the consistency, just right for under eye and on spots. Read HERE for a detailed review.

Hakugen 5-layered cotton pads - These are great for soaking up toners and slapping on you face as masks, 1 piece = 5 layers. I used double layered for removing my makeup with Bioderma micellar water, and removing my eye makeup with dual-phase removers. Decent job, won't waste the usual amount of cotton pads, doesn't shred. Amazing. I bought 6+ boxes since then.

Bausch + Lomb re-nu contact lens solution - Another bottle gone.

Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover - Picked this up in Thailand, the old botanics range was on clearance and this was dirt cheap (cheaper than a McDonalds meal). It does an OK job, but doesn't win me over like Chanel's one. One down, still one to go!

Orbis UV Cut Sunscreen On Face Light SPF34 - My usual staple in summer, reviewed HERE before.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil - I've gone through bottles of this before, very often by the 4th month or so, I find deposits inside the oil (due to contamination while using I guess). I've heard an interesting theory lately about tea tree oil 'suppressing' breakouts from surface, sort of push them back to deep down, so it should be avoided. I don't know how valid this is, but I will keep using it for anti-inflammatory purposes.

Kanebo Freshel Cleansing Cream - Large large jar that seen me through months, is dirt cheap too. It's great for colder months because of its balmy consistency. Because of its thick creamy consistency, almost like a massage balm, it's also less abrasive (tugging) than using cleansing oils in my opinion because there's more product between your fingers and your skin.

I've also managed to finish up several sheet masks.
Mandom Beauty Barrier Repair super moist facial mask: This is truly a gem! Skin felt so much more supple and charged with moisture, love this stuff, will buy in future. This is slightly 3x the price than a My Beauty Diary sheet mask.

Kose Puresa Q10 mask: The mask is soaked in milky white solution and doesn't feel easily absorbed, will avoid at all cost in future.

MediHeal Beauty Clinic Collagen Impact Essential Mask* and N.M.F. Aquaring Ampoule Mask* - Both are impressive, left my face energized and plump, supple! I'd buy in a heartbeat if not for the price! About $20 HKD per sheet.

My Beauty Diary Birds' Nest Mask and Pearl Powder Mask - These are alright, not too special. Still have loads to finish.

TALIKA Anti-age Bio-enzymes Mask* - The mask sheet is made of plastic silicone-ish material. I applied this and fell asleep, waking 3 hours later and found this sheet stuck on my face (and hence might block my pores from breathing during that 3 hours), FAIL.

LOUVIER Paris Moisture Mask - This was great, would love to buy this if I know where this is sold. This was a gift from swap.

DHC Eye Mask - used and reviewed before.

Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub (TOSSED) - A disastrous scrub. Not only the scrubby beads are large, but the scrub cream itself is thick, difficult to spread evenly, and GREASY. It left a greasy residue/film on skin after scrubbing, to the bin it went. Luckily this was not a full size. I tried to use it on my legs/arms but found the consistency too hard to work with.

Full size: (24) + 8 = 32
Deluxe Samples: (54) + 3 = 57
Small / Packet Samples: (57) + 11 = 68
Masks: (63) + 10 = 73
TOSSED:  (11) + 1 = 12

I'll be back with more upcoming posts hopefully!

  1. OMG! You finished a ton of products! I have a ton of masks too but haven't been using them lately. I've been too lazy and I've also been using different skin care products this summer. Maybe I should try masking on the weekends.

I love Canmake Cover and Stretch UV Concealer too.

Aaaahhhh, I feel your pain! I recently bought a laptop with Windows 8 and was struggling with it when my desktop died and I had no choice but to get a new one, which of course has Windows 8 on it. I also discovered that the new Office program doesn't come with the photo program that I was used to using for editing my pictures. I really don't like Windows 8. Thanks to another blogger's post a year or two ago, which I happened to remember, I downloaded a free photo editing program, which is easy to use. It is called PhotoScape. I don't do much photo editing--mostly cropping, resizing and watermarking. In the old office program that I used, I would also brighten pictures but haven't done that yet with PhotoScape. If you decide to try this, I can easily tell you how to do what I've done with it.

  2. Hey, welcome back!

I haven't heard that about tea tree oil. I hate researching skin care claims, but I have a vial of tea tree oil to finish and maybe should look it up.

  5. Wow - well done on the empties. I have to agree that although I like Burt's Bees as a brand, their facial products do not impress me. The scrub sounds awful! I have tried their cleansing oil and it made my eyes sting and it had a rotten fruit smell. Some natural products just don't cut the mustard...

    1. omg glad i'm not the only one who doesn't fancy their face products!
I've recently explored other brands which make "Natural" products, so it isn't like I'd miss BBees :)

  6. 10 bottles of that Jill Stuart foundation? Wow! They may be tucked into sample bottles but I'd still hoard them like crazy hahaha. Did you try their newest offering yet?
