Review: Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Color in 08 Smoked Glass

Smoked Glass is a color coming from the old eye jelly batch (on the left of the pic), and for some reason I did not like the older version of the eye jelly, they are more watery, sheerer in pigmentation. (For more comparisons between old and new packaging and formula, check out my previous review HERE) At first I thought Smoked glass's greyish violet color makes my eyes look like they are swollen from last night's crying, but it shows up alright today when I put them on.

I think Smoked glass is one of those colors from the old eye jelly collection and is similar to the rest of the old ones in terms of the weirdness of color, LOL, one of them is a deep red wine kind of color and I wonder who will be wearing those...

Do violet, lilac colors work for you?
Now I wish I will use up this eye jelly jar asap, haha, it gives me headache just to try thinking if the color will work on me this time or next time...

Word of advice: get the new eye jelly instead of the old version!

Review: Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Color N in 09 Midnight Shine

The Autumn/Winter season has come!! Time to get your boots out and get yourself some new clothes from the shops! This also means that I have loads of term papers and mid-terms to complete, and it also means exams are approaching :( !

So before I knew I will get super-busy in the coming weeks and may not be able to write reviews, here's my thoughts on Jill Stuart's Eye Jelly, the one that has new packaging and new formula! The shade is called 09 Midnight Shine, which is a frosty navy blue.

On the left: old packaging and old formula
On the right: new packaging and new formula (the one I am reviewing on)

Why do I say there is old formula and a new one?

Both packaging includes the same amount of product, but I found the old Eye Jelly less pigmented and more watery (less jell-0 like), while the new Eye Jelly is more pigmented and I don't need to layer it in order to see colors. The texture is also less watery. So, I will definitely go for the new ones, not only because their jars look prettier!

Price and Amount of product: 6 grams, probably going to last for a long while, its price is 3 times than that of Canmake, as mentioned last time. But to be fair, its price is just like a regular Bobbi Brown eyeshadow's price I guess, a little bit more than MAC's though.

Texture: wonderful jelly texture, not watery (the new formula, that is).

Pigmentation: Good, very buildable.

Compatibility with other products: the SA said these eye jellies are best to use as eye shadow base, then layer another navy blue powder eyeshadow on top of it for more intensity.

Ease of application: best applied with fingers. Be careful though, finger tips might not be able to spread the eye jelly close to the lash line, also you have to blend really nicely to even out the color.

Review & Swatches: Canmake Jewel Star eye jelly in 06 Brown

Here's what I got on Thursday last week - Canmake Jewel Star Eye jelly in 06 Brown. It swatches beautifully on hand when I tried at the store, very pigmented and blendable. There are a total of 6 shades: candy cotton pink, baby blue, candy floss white, bubblegum green, and lilac. They are all a bit glittery, but not as heavily glitter as Jill Stuart, it is still within my range of acceptance, and they're relatively cheap compared to Jill Stuart, like one-third of JS price, but of course, the product amount is little in Canmake.

Swatches on my hand:
the bottom one (also the deeper one) is built with 2 layers
the upper one is just one stroke of the eye jelly

This brown shade added dimension to the eyes and with just the right amount of glitter. This is going to be my go-to eyeshadow shade, esp. when in a hurry and can't decide what to wear. I wore this for 5 hours today and the glitter didn't come off, or deposit under my eyes, but it did make a crease, though not very noticeable since you won't notice until you close your eyes. But again, I didn't use any eye primer before the eye jelly. I like the ease of application of this product though!
Amount of product: quite little
Price: cheap, one-third of Jill Stuart Eye Jelly
Texture: Not as 'jelly' like as Jill Stuart, but it's like gel
Pigmentation: not bad, color is buildable, color will be obvious with 2 layers or above
Ease of application: Very easy, just use your fingers; but it does leave your fingers with colors and glitters (but you get that also when you apply powder eyeshadows with fingers, right?)
Compatibility with other products: Can layer with powder eye shadows on top, as suggested by Canmake SA (and Jill Stuart SA)
Verdict: If you're new to eye jellies, this is for you. This is cheap and fun to play with!
P.S. KATE has released eye jellies as well! The prices of KATE eye jellies are similar to Canmake but KATE has 8 colors in total.

Swatches: Jill Stuart eye jellies and illuminance eye palette

Swatches of the eye jellies:
Top: JS eye jelly color in 08 Smoked Glass (to be discontinued soon)
Bottom: JS eye jelly color in 09 Midnight Shine (new color + packaging)
Viewed from another angle: slight change in color!!
I'm in love with the navy blue one eye jelly!

Swatches of the Illuminance eye palette in 07 Layered Gem:

Top: Pewter/silverish grey (?) on far left of the palette, followed by:
earth-toned brownish pink below, then a taupe-ish brown (?), and finally the dark blue (but different from the navy blue of the eye jelly)

I think the palette can make greattt smoky eyes! Have any of you tried J.S. eye jellies and palettes? Tell us what you think!
