Emptied products in August

So much had happened during late August and early September. I took a whole week off and caught up with some sun, rest, and gym, was hoping to catch up with books but to no avail. Then I changed to a new laptop and there's all the nuisance about connecting to the Internet. Call me old-fashioned but Windows 8 is quite difficult to work with, and there's no simple photo editing tool...oh well lol.

Let's get to today's topic: empties in August.

The brightest blush in my stash? REALLY! Canmake Powder Cheeks in PW30

I checked. It's been ages since the last time I talked about BLUSH. As a proud blush fiend, I have talked about a new blush each day for over 30 days (see "A Blush A Day" Project I've done HERE and HERE. Click on the tags under the two posts if you're a blush fiend interested to learn more). In fact, I don't think I can repeat such a project now, because 1) I think my stash has almost every color, tone, finish of blush there can be; 2) I don't get THAT excited about blush anymore, don't ask me how it happened, lol.

Spending too much time browsing the drugstore racks randomly Curiosity had landed on me one day and I thought: "hey I don't have THIS color at home!" and off it went with my money in the wallet. I don't own NARS Exhibit A nor Taj Mahal, nor MAC Bite of an Apple, for your reference. And besides, who would have thought a Japanese drugstore brand would step up in their color options and offer such a daring, bold, flamingo-looking shade? And besides, it costs less than $100 HKD (can't remember), so why not........
lol.

Empties products in January 2013 + blog sale short announcement

Drawing inspiration from Liz's experience mentioned in her “empties” posts, I started to become more aware (read: obsessed) with empties ever since starting this series. I keep a log sheet of products I aim to empty or hit pan on, and set targets for them. Doing this helped me gain a better picture of when and how long I would be able to finish a certain something, and of course, how much I still have in the stash. It’s all about being mindful (of what you have) and disciplined (what you don’t need to have and need not buy therefore). This month, I’ve managed to empty quite a number of products, but it's no big feat compared to other bloggers' attempts. Yet, this marked a big step on my “empties” journey. Yay!

Family pic (with Rouge Bunny Rouge Aqua Primer sample jar unpictured, since I've reused the jar for something else *long story*)

ABAD Day 28: Canmake Powder Cheeks Blush in PW20//"每日一胭脂"系列 第28天: Canmake PW20 胭脂

Canmake Powder Cheeks blush range holds a variety of colors, but the variety exists within 'pinks' mostly. I picked up PW20 because it is used the most by Lena (model for Canmake). The color is supposedly ideal for creating the innocent angelic pink look.

Flimsy plastic packaging and crappy quality brush aside, the color itself is beautiful and angelic. I found pigmentation to be a bit on the sheer side, the swatch below is after 3-5 swipes.

Intensity: Low in pigmentation
Finish: shimmery
Price: $9-10 USD
Lasting power: 3-4 hours
Repurchase: no
Overall thoughts: The color works nicely, but the flimsy packaging is difficult to open, brush that comes with the blush is of no utility value. Pigmentation is low/sheer. Longevity is lacking.

What is A-Blush-A-Day (ABAD) Project?
On each day, each of us will present a different blush (old or new) we used each day (so that's 4 x 30 = 120 blushes), with swatches done either on face or on hand, and a short review. For my list of 30 blushes to be used in this project, click here. Don't forget to head to Elaine's, Vonvon's, PopBlush's blogs for daily blush surprises!

ABAD Day 22: Canmake Powder Cheeks blush in PW16//"每日一胭脂"系列 第22天: Canmake PW16 胭脂

Today's featured blush is from Japanese drugstore brand Canmake, they have a comprehensive range of blushes on offer, from cream to powder, duos and stripes-like. I had my eyes on a tawny orange color PW16.

It might not be captured here but the blush carries shimmer. Am no fan of the flimsy plastic packaging here. There's also a small synthetic brush attached but it's not that great to use, not pictured here.

PW16 gives a tawny and slightly sunburnt color, it worked for me quite well last year but this year I found it made my face look dull, I am considering topping it with a pink blush above.

Intensity: Sheer, mediocre pigmentation
Finish: Shimmery
Price: ~$8-9 USD
Lasting power: 3-4 hours
Repurchase: No
Overall thoughts: Pigmentation is sheer and mediocre, took me 3-4 swipes to get it show up. Flimsy plastic packaging is a big no-no. Tiny synthetic brush inside compact is of no use. Blush shade itself made me look sunburnt (but not when I first tried it).

What is A-Blush-A-Day (ABAD) Project?
On each day, each of us will present a different blush (old or new) we used each day (so that's 4 x 30 = 120 blushes), with swatches done either on face or on hand, and a short review.

Today's featured blush is one that I have reviewed before: Canmake Cream Cheek #09. It's a cool barbie-pink kind of color which was so apt for creating dolly cheeks. The cream blush is housed in a flimsy plastic packaging and is super light and tiny so it's handy for travel.

My nails made a nip/dent in it =.=

Pale pink with lilac-hues (lilac!!!), my cuppa tea, haha.

It imparts a lovely dolly-cheek look on my cheeks.

Intensity: Medium-high pigmented, needs to do some blending work
Finish: Matte, creamy
Price: ~$10-11 USD? Canmake packaging never indicates how much product they have.
Lasting power: 4-5 hours, could last longer in my opinion
Repurchase: I love the fact that it's creamy and light to carry it in bags, but if they would come up with more novel colors I'd gladly repurchase.
Overall thoughts: I'm extremely pleased with this color as cool pinks are right up my alley. It's pigmented but needs careful blending work. I'm not a fan of the flimsy plastic packaging though. On a side note, #09 is a unique barbie-pink color which I don't own in my stash when I got this, but the whole range of Canmake cream cheeks could do better in terms of color variety, a lot of shades are the same (e.g. #03, #07 and #08, I can't tell the difference between these.)

What is A-Blush-A-Day (ABAD) Project?
Project ABAD was started by Elaine, Jolyn and I. On each day, each of us will present a different blush (old or new) we used each day (so that's 3 x 30 = 90 blushes), with swatches done either on face or on hand, and a short review. For my list of 30 blushes to be used in this project, click here. Don't forget to head to Elaine's and Jolyn's blogs for daily blush surprises!

Project 30-days results + giveaway WINNER!

About a month ago, I started this project 30-days (post here). Now it's time for the results!

I realized the pics are taken at different times and it's hard to adjust the lighting and the angle, size LOL......sorry about that!

First we have....
a small but noticeable tip in the Canmake Cream Highlighter. I used it for highlighting the brow bone and nose bridge.
Next we have my everyday powder foundation: Benefit Hello Flawless in Honey. Wow the pan's diameter enlarged XD!
Length of Urban Decay Bourbon eyeliner has gone a bit shorter when compared to the unsharpened/untouched Zero:
Ettusais loose powder. I can't really judge how far this has been consumed within one month...the results aren't significant eh? I applied with a powder puff, maybe that's why? (since a puff takes up less product than a brush through the sift?)
One of my HG blush: Cargo Blu-Ray HD blush/highlighter in pink shimmer (i believe...). Blush surface has been disturbed even more in the middle, in real life a tiny tiny dip is beginning to form...it didn't show up much on pictures though :/ The latter pic is more similar to the original thing in terms of color.
Marc Jacobs EDP:
Crabtree & Evelyn Gardeners Hand cream. Whee it's getting less product inside. I use this only at night before sleep.
Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver balm - completely finished yay! (previous review here)
Jill Stuart Day Care Essence - a month ago there are about 10 uses left, same as the Dior lip glow I chose these two to include in the project because 1) they're the easiest to finish up; 2) can't wait for them to be gone/binned. XD I have used this Day Care Essence as a primer (with SPF) for about half a year, although not regularly. This should be long gone by 4-5 months of uses.
My thoughts on project 30-days:

It's easy to stick with the same foundation, primer, eyeliner, hand cream, highlighter, perfume; yet it's not the case with blushes, lip products and loose powder. If you have a huge stash, it's even more difficult! I found that I can stick to a blush for at most 3 days (unless you have determination and self-discipline of a saint, haha) but after that my hands tend to *drift* towards the others (oh well but I didn't!). It's freaking hard to stick to the same blush :/ especially when you have too many to choose from XD With lip products it's the same case, it's hard to stick to one item when you don't like it in the first place!

I would continue sticking to the same powder foundation, concealer and hand cream, but that's all LOL.

p.s. I just remembered I forgot to take a pic of the Canmake concealer! The tube itself is opaque so it's hard to judge how much it has in the beginning/after 30 days. I'm going to stick to that concealer until it's completely used up/dried up. I am even thinking of dismantling it like people do to their UDPP, but not sure how to cut through the tube -.-.

On another note, the giveaway winner is.....*throws confetti*

fleur!

Congrats hun! Please email me your info and details within 48 hours :)
Thanks to you all who participated!! ^_^

Swatches and Review: Canmake Cream Cheek #01, #03, #04, #07, #08, #09

As promised, here's the long-overdue post on Canmake cream blushes. The one in the middle of the pic is Cream Highlighter and I'll review it separately in another post.
Here they are, and a close-up pic below:
I'm not really good at describing colors, but I will try :P

#01 is a coral peach (think of cream colors), it's the most natural-looking out of all shades, in the pan and on the face XD it has tiny bit of shimmer but not noticeable:
#03 is a candy/pastel pink, with a bit of shimmer:
#04 almost looks like a blood orange, and it gives you the sun-kissed kind of look, this has shimmer too:
#07 looks frighteningly bright in the pan, it's a bright coral. with *slight* shimmer.
#08 is somewhere between #01 and #03, and is paler/more natural than #01. (The color in the pan is somewhere between #01 and #03 but it swatched paler than #01, weird, huh?)
#09 is a barbie pink, and it's MATTE (!!!). It gives you the porcelain-doll kind of look and is my favourite out of all. It looks scarily bright, but it's the most flattering in my opinion, maybe that's because I don't own a color like that lol.
#01, #03 and #09 might look similar, so I put them next to each other. As you can see, #01 leans towards a warm peach with pink tones, #03 is pastel pink, #09 is leaning a bit cooler and mauve-ish. #03 is sort of somewhere in between (in terms of color gradient...hope this makes sense XD).
If you can get your hands on these, I'd say go for it! I love their texture, the cream blush would transform into powder and feels so velvety and smooth. Some cream blushes I know would give you a weird sheen (like an oily face @_@), these ones will not. Canmake packaging never reveals how much product they have, so these are actually a bit tiny, say, when compared to NYX cream blushes, I would estimate 2-3 grams of product from the tiny pan (WTF?!). But of course Canmake ones are great for travel since they don't take too much room.

I applied these with my fingers and they blended well, I want to try using a stippling brush for these but I haven't got one. So you might prefer powder blushes if you don't like using your fingers, haha. The staying power is around 7~8 hours. These are retailed at around 7~8 Euros each.

Hope these help!
What is/are your favourite cream blushes among your stash? :D

Bloggers Meetup with Michelle from Cosmetic Cupcake + tiny loot!

Michelle from CosmeticCupcake and I met today and we went shopping! It's my second time to meet bloggers coming to Hong Kong :) and my third time to meet up with bloggers. It was a fun experience to know each other better when we hang out! Let me know if you're visiting next year again Michelle! Would love to spend more time choosing nail polishes with you LOL

We got the following:
Laneige Water Sleeping Pack EX (aka the famous sleeping mask) This is my second tub...I had to throw the first tub away when I return from Europe because it's too heavy for my luggage T^T Anyways, LOVE THIS STUFF! If you haven't tried this, you should! I layer this over my moisturizer at night and go to bed, and the next morning I wash normally the way I would. This mask makes my skin sooooo moisturized and plump with hydration after use, better than sheet masks. When I was in Europe in temperatures below 10 degrees, I use this as a night moisturizer directly (thin or thick depends on how much you want) and it keeps my skin from drying and avoids the dry patches and flaking. I can't say enough how much I love this product, this is my HG mask and double-duty moisturizer in winter!

Next, Michelle and I saw a packet of two Vitacreme B12 samples, since neither of us has tried it, we were curious about what it's supposed to do to your skin ;) If anyone knows, do tell us LOL

And the last item: Canmake Cream Cheek in #09 (Limited Edition!!) I'm a sucker for LE stuff, you probably would have figured out by now, hahaha.

The shade looks very vibrant in the pan, but when swatched, it's a deep pink (with slight mauve-ish tones, almost lilac) and it's THE pink that I'm looking for. I'm always looking for a dupe for my HG blush, but more on that in a separate post :P. This shade has a matte finish too.

New promo pic of LENA wearing the cream blush in #09: such a porcelain doll pink.
Do you know of any blushes that show up like the color on LENA's face? I'm lusting that kind of porcelain-doll-face pink which also looks a bit lilac-ish, almost light-purple :D if it makes sense.
