Guerlain Abeille Royale Daily Repair Age-Defying Serum Review

Circumstances had made me an adventurer in latest skincare on the market: the Daily Repair Serum from Guerlain's Abeille Royale line, which aims to firm, smooth and lift the skin. In fact, past studies had shown the superb ability of honey in treating wounds and injuries, there's something about honey being a natural healer.

Inspired by just that, the serum by the Guerlain house had taken it to a new level - sourcing only the best honey from the black bees who were buzzing on the French Ile d'Ouessant (the Island of Ouessant) which was known for its ecosystem's purity, and abstinence from pollution. In bee language, they are the "creme de la creme" of bees. The site was listed under UNESCO as a biodiversity haven.

The benefits of honey on repairing skin damage and wounds is undoubted - but how can it be delivered in our hands in the freshest possible way, is no easy feat. The little "balls" you see in the bottle have grown through a special process, which they burst when you press and pump the bottle, releasing the goodness embedded in it. As you see below, it came out in a gel format, and has tiny luminescent particles in it.

The texture became runny after spreading it on the area, and is delightfully lightweight and easy to blend. Contrary to what I expected of honey being thick and gooey, this serum is nothing like that. It's a real pleasure to apply. The scent comes with a faint smell of honey, but is not too overwhelming. This is my right hand before application of the serum:

After massaging every bit in, there was no shiny residue or a sticky touch left behind. For testing purposes, I applied it on my left hand. Lines appeared smoother and skin restored plumpness. It felt comfortable. Looking at the "after" photo, it's trace-less on the skin. It's almost as if the bees are silently working their way to repair and restore the texture.

This serum is best followed by something to seal it in - the Abeille Royale Face Treatment Oil which was introduced last year in the same lineup. If you've never tried that oil before, go try it, it's nothing like an oil, sinks in right away and never greasy. It does a great job in sealing the hydration, locking it in.

The serum comes in a 30ml and 50ml version, retailing at $1210 and $1620 respectively. And did I mention the bottle is a real treat to the eyes?!
